“Old Grim Fairytales” is the second album by the BlackStone co in EP format, released on March 26, 2022 in digital version only.
Recorded between July and November 2021 in the band’s studio and mixed by Marc Bohren and Evan Simon.
The EP is built around 5 original songs and an instrumental track used as an intro to the last song.
The musical style of “Old Grim Fairytales” is deliberately and radically different from the band’s first album “Betrayed” – mixing acoustic, electric guitars, piano, vintage keyboards, strings and harmonica with progressive melodies and arrangements thus showing another facet of what is the BlackStone co.
For this EP, the band called on Fred Augugliaro who managed the writing and the arrangement of the keyboards, thus bringing a particular color to the songs and the final touch of Old Grim Fairytales.
The harmonica part on “Bye bye” is played by Pierre Brindjonc – co-author of the title in 97 with Marc Bohren.
The first track – “Leaving my Soul” – is an acoustic version of a track from the 2019 album “Betrayed” specially re-arranged for the EP.
The songs Burns and Ashes, Abyss of Time, Lost Horizons and Bye Bye were written between 1997 and 2011, recomposed and rearranged by the band, the lyrics are personal tributes with themes dealing with introspection, loss, state deranged mind, hope…
